Sweetheart, what you are going through is very common among people your age. You're not the only one, and certainly not the first. The important thing is that you bring this issue to someone's attention. Don't wait for your dad to mention the counselor, go to him now and say "Ok, I'm ready to go", and GO! Although typical, this is not something you can just let happen. This doesn't mean your whacko or anything like that. It's actually just the opposite - it's normal. This is nothing to be ashamed of, but what IS something to be ashamed of is doing nothing about it.
The things you mentioned that make you depressed are very valid reasons, but there IS help out there, there ARE people that care and can help. If you don't think your dad will take you seriously, go to your counselor at school, tell him/her what's going on, and they'll get the ball rolling.
DON'T BE ASHAMED!! You are NOT alone on this issue. Take care and may God bless!!

wow... ok first you have too much time on your hands! When your not being productive in that time... all you have left to do is think. "Think"---"Thought" both very powerful words my dear... If i can remember we go through at least 30 thousand thoughts per day.... those thoughts can really bring a toll on us. Your thoughts effect you obviously mentally, but also phsycally. First it was the thought, then the speach and then the action in any situation. Sorry if all I'm saying may confuse you but, you need to start out thinking positively and you will succeed. You already said you can't pass your classes, therefore you won't. However you said you want to stop crying and you will. I suggest you read this book called The Magic of Thinking Big. I just started the book myself, I will start the second chapter tomorrow and I know it's gonna be good. Anyway, I went through a time when I felt like crying and I was depressed... I thought about death, I thought it would be so much easier if I was dead and I always that thought when a situation wasn't going right or when it was summer time while school is out. Make good use of your time, you probably have talents that you can unlock and see how you can brighten someone else's day... We're all we got! Volunteer somewhere, go mentor someone, start your own buisness, babysit, help raise money for "Invisible Children" Have fun girl/boy!!! You're not hungry, you're not poor, you're not stupid and you're not gonna cry about things like this all the time anymore ok... take care..

u dont have a problem that cant be helped you do sound really depressed but the best thing to do is take time out for your self let all your thoughts from the past go if not there goin to bother u for the rest of ur life it will be hard and take some time but it can b done and a counselor will not solve it all the time so u can spend ur time and money on something that's not helpful or u can try to help urself. Maybe your dad needs to back up a little also because if you have things on your mind that makes you cry Now then him being on your back about how u use to be aint going to help its just going to lead u into deeper depression. live life be urself get out and enjoy yourself but dont do nothing crazy or illegal just have fun something to keep all the negativity off ur mind, also do ur school work its important to, in other words keep something to do and it will keep your mind off what ever makes you cry or keeps u down. Sorry to here your mom left also if shes not deceased believe me one day she will be back if it is only to be apart of just your life and not your dad its ok thats part of life also. Hope i've helped and not hurt the situation more GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

I am sorry you are having such a hard time. I don't know the circumstances behind your mother leaving. Do you have anyone at all you can talk to? Keeping things bottled up inside will just make you feel worse. You need to surround yourself with people who love you, especially now. Maybe you should give the counselor a try. She might could help you sort through your feelings, then once the depression gets better, you'll feel better in other parts of your life. I know it is hard to function when you're feeling that down.

well - first i'll tell ya, we were all 17 once. we know what it's like. guys and girls alike. tough time of life.
second - know that it's good and healthy to cry. sounds to me like you have alot on your plate all at once - and that's hard for a grown adult to handle, let alone a 17 year old.
third - don't wish those emotions away. it's what keeps you a tender, loving, caring person.
fourth - if you haven't already, seek professional help. you alluded to seeing a counselor in your question up there; if you have the opportunity to do so, take advantage of it. you might be surprised at how much better you'd feel.
fifth and final - i can't stress this one enough. talk it out. don't hold it inside. posting here was a good start.
