Just tell her some stuff, it'll make her feel happy to know she knows something about her son. Don't leave her out, she's your mom.

Depends on what you mean by your "personal life." What are we talking about? Shooting heroin, or what kind of hair style? In other words, some things are quite appropriate for moms to be concerned about, others are not. She should nag and complain and worse, if you are shirking your responsibilities, such as to get a good education, keep up your health, act in a socially acceptable manner [morals, ethics], and so on - that's a mother's job.

But if she is nagging over teen culture and over what is at least not inappropriate, then you need to talk to her in an adult manner about her behavior. No whinning, no anger - just reasoned dialog. A lot of times, when you respond with calm reason, that alone takes them aback and they tend to listen.

I wish that my parent asked me about my life. She avoids asking if I am seeing anyone, etc. I want to talk about my happy experiences, but she's conservative. That kind of "stuff" isn't talked about. It makes me feel sad sometimes.
