I have an 1989 Chevy Blazer. You know the ones with top that comes off. Any ways, it's all stock except for the 33x12.50R15s and it is in really great condition body wise and runs excellent. Well I have had nothing but tranny problems. It has the 700R4 and was told I need to get Th350 or the TH400 series trans. I plan on doing a 6" lift and going with 37s or 38s along with 4:56 or 4:72 gears. I haven't driven it in over a year because the mechanic has had nothing but problems with the transmission. What should I do?

You would be better off finding a GOOD tran man, as the latter 700R are a good 4 speed, That said, the 400 would be your better replacement, because of your mods, but then you have only a 3 speed, which is going to be tough on your millage. Again, check with a good tran shop on those gears.

A well built TH350 or just go for a TH400 they are practically bulletproof.

ditch the 700R4

Get it converted to turbo 400 if you're gonna be messing around with the big tires and all. Oh yeah, find a REAL trans guy too..

There are people around who can build that 700-r4 so it will last quite a while. Sounds like your guy needs to go back to tranny school.

if you are doing a 6in lift you also need to turn rear axle so your ujoints won't keep breaking as far as trannys 400 is the best

if the mechanic is taking that long you should change mechanics (if he is working on a transmission that long he doesn't know what he's doing)
