The materals need to last for 10,000 years....while stilll being able to show a message

Plastic my friend. PVC that you can find anywhere around you ( just don't take that environmental friendly, that one will last for 3 000 years only). The only problem is, if you put some message on it, after 10 000 yrs, it will probably just end up in a garbage like all other PVC's.
Other options that you have are gold (24 kt), platinum and probably rust free iron ( although I'm not sure if it's rust free for such a long period of time)

Try rock. The granite in Mt. Rushmore is expected to erode less than 1/4 inch in the next 10,000 years. Just be sure you carve the letters or symbols in the message big enough that a quarter inch change here and there won't affect or distort your message.

Those clear plastic things they use to package stuff. It requires a diamond bladed hacksaw to open em.
