Starfish are Echinoderms - a group that also includes Sea Cucumbers, Sea Urchins, Crinoids and Brittlestars.

Their included in the phylum Echinodermata-along with brittlestars, basketstarfish, sea cucumbers,etc.
The name means "spiny skinned".
They feature unique locomotion using hundreds of hydraulic tube feet. Starfish achieve their appearance late in life-most of their developing life stages they look nothing like the adult form.
