I have an hp notebook that is less than 2 weeks old!

may be you can go to store for replacement since its less than 2 weeks old. besides it should be under warranty.
It sounds like you do not have appropriate driver, update driver and see if it works. If not, then go to hp.com, locate your mode, then look for troubleshoot.
