well once you are rejected there isnt much you can do about it so you might want to consider your other options...
you should look at the UCSD and UCD websites and see what they have to offer.. its really hard to describe if ucsd, ucsb, and ucd is any better than the other or which one you should pick... but consider what major you want, what type of environment you like, and how you like the campus (visiting the school helps a lot...)
anyways good luck with your researching

UC San Diego is a good school but UC Davis and Santa B is just as good. But if I hvae to choose I would go to UCSB.

"Good" is a relative distinction. It depends heavily, if not solely, on what you wish to study and in what sort of learning environment you do best. The point is, Harvard and Princeton may have glowing reputations, but they aren't for everyone. Your "good" choice will most likely be a school that offers the best fit for you, balancing cirriculum and teaching/learning environment. Bigger, more famous, ain't always best!

If you really want to, you can always transfer later.
UC San Diego may be ok, but it's not world famous (unknown in the UK or even most of the Eastern US). Don't worry about it.

Err, UCSD is ranked a little higher, but not all that much. It doesn't have the national/international rep like Berkeley or even UCLA.
I wouldn't sweat it.
