The solenoid is bad IF all lights remain bright when you try to start your car. Check all battery connections both connections on the battery, ground, and solenoid.

If there are all OK and the problem persists remove the starter and have it checked at Auto Zone. The entire starter may need replacing. I'm betting my house and lot it's the solenoid only.

Your description of our headlight reaction while turning the ignition key is a perfect description of a bad starter solenoid. Possibly a Bendix problem inside the starter but I seriously doubt it.

VERY likely a starter solenoid, which is what I was leaning toward when you originally posted your question...

You can buy an AC delco remanufactured starter which has a limited lifetime warranty, and the solenoid is included as part of it. The part number is 336-1176. Since it is a reman, there is a core charge, so you will need to return your old starter in the box in order to get your core deposit back. Delco does NOT list the solenoid as a separate part. However, you may be able to buy it this way as a "Dealer only" piece, check with your local Saturn dealer.

Another possibility is a corroded battery cable that is losing constact as it heats up.

Clicking sounds are the battery not supplying enough amps to the starter cause the starter usually draws around to 100 to 200 even 3 to 400 amps before it starts and gives the charge back to the battery but when it doesn't start it'll just draw amps and not put it back to the engine, so most likely you just have a bad battery... So charge your battery and see what it does...

the clicking sound is the solenoid on your starter not engaging to the flywheel.

replace or have your starter replaced

make sure your battery is at least putting out 12.4 or more volts.

good luck
