1.) Honor
2.) Self-sacrifice
3.) Upholding the law
4.) Defending others when the law is unjust
I think you can pretty much pick up from there.

1. A hero puts his body on the line despite being scared to death. 2. A hero looks for the opportunity to help out any way he/she can. 3. A hero thinks nothing of himself, doesn't consider his/herself to be a hero. 4. A hero, uh, doesn't... I'm running out of points here. A hero wears tights. 5. Sometimes a hero... sometimes a hero is a mutant who doesn't want to be a hero. 6. Um. A hero... uhhhh. A hero--drawing a blank here--a hero can fly higher than the highest mountain. 7. A hero eats hero sandwiches. 8. A hero sometimes turns into a villian that other heroes have to hunt down and kill. 9. A hero can be a kid. But usually a pretty smart kid. 10. A hero sometimes doesn't look like a hero.

If you are writing an essay on heroes then there is one thing you must include! The idea of a hero undoubtedly plays a huge part in history, and a man names Joseph Campbell pioneered a lot of ideas regarding the archetypal hero. Look it up- it will help you in your essay.

It's not tough. All you have to do is love and show love. Not just romantic love though. Caring for others and helping them when they are in need is a form of love as well. If you have a family then you should love and respect them. If you do that then I gurantee you that they will at least think very highly of you if not consider you their hero.

"No single one of us can know the name of even every child that performs a noble deed, and if we do not know our heroes, how can we celebrate them? More sinisterly though, the media can be superficial and capricious. The past itself changes under our eyes; people who are "nobodies" one moment are apparently "heroes" the next and then these same people are gone again - either exploding further into Neverland with Michael Jackson or dissolving into obscurity.
Or are the media identifying something else for us - not the hero but the celebrity - someone who has attained the "fifteen minutes of fame" that Andy Warhol claimed we were all due?
How often are heroes chosen for their merchandising potential? After all, by wearing a certain brand of shoes, can everybody be just little bit of a hero? How difficult is it to be a hero in media land?
Was Princess Diana behaving heroically as she withdrew from her stodgy husband and the moribund House of Windsor?
Was Kurt Cobaine a heroic suicide because he absented himself from a world that was no longer tolerable?
How do we see an American president who may be best known for his aggressive campaign challenge to the voters: "Read my lips"?
How do we see an American president who ignores the advice of the rest of the world and insists upon leading his nation into losing situations whilst plundering his own people?
What about a highly-paid athlete in professional sports? Obviously, if no one else has his or her talents, he or she must be one of those superhumans with whom we began our discussion. And what about another truly gifted athlete, who specifically warns his worshippers that he is no role-model? Who are these people passing as heroes? Is a man who can throw a ball into a hoop a true hero when compared to a man who has dragged three comrades to safety in the line of duty? Yet who is recompensed for what? If heroes are made and not born, who or what makes them? But if they are born and not made, how shall we know them?
Sacrifice is the forfeiture of something highly valued for the sake of one considered to have a greater value or claim.
Determination is a fixed intention or resolution; a firmness of purpose or resolve.
Loyalty is the feeling of allegiance or the act of binding oneself to a course of action.
Courage is that firmness of spirit and swell of soul which meets danger without fear.
Dedication is a selfless devotion; complete and whole hearted fidelity or the act of binding oneself to a course of action.
Intrepidity is firm, unshaken courage.
Valor is courage exhibited in war, and can not be applied to single combats.
Selfless is the quality of unselfish concern for the welfare of others and acting with less concern for yourself.
Conviction is a fixed or strong belief; a necessity of the mind or an unshakable belief.
Focused is the ability to direct one's energy toward a particular point or purpose; to concentrate one's energy.
Gallantry is adventurous courage, which courts danger with a high and cheerful spirit.
Perseverance is a persistent determination.
Fortitude has often been styled "passive courage," and consists in the habit of encountering danger and enduring pain with a steadfast and unbroken spirit.
Bravery is daring and impetuous courage, like that of one who has the reward continually in view, and displays his courage in daring acts.
Compassionate, empathetic, quick thinking, self confident and really really nice hair and butt are the only other assets i can think of.
