I have never used protection with any of my partners - since the age of well under 16 the reason being my entire life Ive wanted a child but Ive strangley always doubted it. I am 23 now and been with my husband 5 years now and nothing. It is causing depression-I have always had really bad periods, the last one lasted 2 1/2months. I spoke to my Dr previousley who said I was too young and things will settle. Nearly 2 years ago I had a scan to check for polycistic ovaries and they were all clear-however i couldnt be examined as I was having a period at the time. Can I demand that I am tested to see if I can have children, at least then I can move on with my life and look to adopt. If anyway has any advice of comments please help!

I'm sure if you find the right doctor they will test you or refer you to someone who will. If you are unable to have children, adoption is defiantly something you should consider. I was in foster homes for five years of my life and all those kids want is someone to love them, when they feel so unwanted. I was adopted into an amazing home, with very loving parents ( which you sound like you would be) and my life turned into a miracle. I'm sixteen now, and I will never be thankful enough for the life and the opportunities my family has given me. I'm sorry if it turns out you are unable to have children, but remember that even though you can't have children a child can have you. You and your husband can make some child feel wanted, and be some child's miracle....and they can be yours.. - I hope everything works out! good luck

See a fertlity specialist they will test you for thyroid problems, premature menopause, PCOS etc etc

It took me 4 years to conceive my son - i had the tests done after about 12 months and then went on to do various fertility treatments. In the end i concieved naturally and now have a 5 week old baby. There may not be a problem - it just takes some people longer than others. You should get the tests done and if necessary undertake fertility treatment.

Good luck - all good things come to those that wait.

Well next time you're not on your period make sure to book an appointment and get yourself looked at to see if there are any problems. Consider adoption all the while, and decide on what you will do if it appears that it's a negative.
Nowadays, scientists are able to do all sorts of things. It may be possibly for you to still carry the baby, but to use another woman's egg. Your husband's sperm can still be used to fertilise the egg. Just think about what you want to do -- there are so many options for women that are unable to have children these days.

Of course you can demand that. Your doctor probably can;t do it, you will ask him to reffer you to a fertility counselor right away. Dont take no for an answer, if you want kids you are at a fine age to be able to have them, not too young, your doc was wrong. Good luck either way, adoption is just as special if not more because you are giving a loving family to a child without one! Best of luck with the fertility!

Go to a good OB/GYN, someone that a friend or relative likes. Tell them you would like a full infertility workup. Try to schedule it when you don't expect your period but if you do get it, call the office and see what they suggest you do. Blood work can still be done and another appointment scheduled.
I thought I was in that same situation and I was the same age. I had a workup done and was told it would be very difficult for me to get pregnant.
When I accepted that, I got pregnant 3 times and in 4 years !!! This, after trying for 8 years. So do not give up. I have seen it many times while working in OB/GYN.
Hang in there and good luck to you

well infertility is very complex. I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. well I am not looking to adopt children but my family has adopted children and it is a wonderful experience.I work for a foster child agency and there is a lot of children who need a home. well doctors say that you are infertile if you have tried consistantly for 1year. Im not sure if there is one specific test to determine if you can get pregnant. I am with you I have always believed that i a unable to have children, like wise. but research the test that can determine pregnancy, and if there is a test demand it. But pregnancy usually happens when you are not focusing on it. So, go on and let it happen without stress and worry. Well, I wish you luck with everything.

You can definitely ask that your doctor start checking out your fertility. But, even if he finds nothing wrong, you may still fall within the percentage of women who have unexplained infertility. But definitely try to find out if there's anything they can find that might be impeding you from getting pregnant.

asked to be refered to a RE (Reproductive Endocrinologitis) and ask to be tested for PCOS - esp. since your period is lastly as long as it has.

if that doctor says no, ask for another docotor - it is your body.

i am so sorry they use the age factor - I get it all the time too. it doesn't make it any easier.

I THINK YOU SHOULD DEMAND TO BE TESTED (AND YOUR HUSBAND). YOU NEED TO KNOW EITHER WAY TO PUT YOUR MIND AT EASE AND FIND OUT IF THERE ARE PROBLEMS. ITS EASIER TO FIX WHILE YOUR YOUNGER SO I WOULDNT LET THE DOCTORS TELL YOU TO WAIT. GOOD LUCK!
