Because the friends and family are a great support team, but it is difficult to find that special someone to make your life complete. Even when that person is found, what a gay person defines as a successful relationship may be a goal that is not reachable (depending on where you live).
The support group is fantastic, but it does not fulfill the sense of belonging.

hey!!!!
what a great question!!! i have always had that problem, i have too many friends, they really like me, my family can't live without me, they say that am the living spirit of the house, i graduated with honor from school, but you know what, i often cry alone in my room, i feel lonely and abandoned...
i wondered why, never had the answer for that, i used to say to myself, i have evrything i may ever think of, why am i not happy...
it might be something from within that might give that stereotypical image about it, but i lately realized something,
patience, i mean you should enjoy life as it is now, and when the right person comes into your life, he'll change all that and make you feel surrounded with love....
at least that's what happened with me(almost)...
so good luck & cheer up!

Maybe because they still feel society still isn't giving them the respect they deserve.
That being said, I like to think that as a section of society they are happier than they were in the past when some had loveless marriages or where suicide was sometimes the only way out.

I dont think it has anything to do with being gay.I think you just are looking in the wrong places...think about what you want and what kind of person you would like to be with and put yourself in teh places they go all the time
