is there any way to get it soft and usable again?

Don't know if this will work but worth a try. Take a wet papertowel. Wrap it around the playdough and put it in a sealed baggie.

You don't have anything to lose if it doesn't work. :)

Try to just run it under water and kneading it in. I think it might feel slimy, but I think it works out in the end.
