Today I was carrying a heavy box of canned food (it was REALLY heavy, I could barely carry it) and afterwards I had stomach cramps. This was about an hour and a half ago and I still am having some mild pain in my lower abdomen.

Do you think I just pulled a muscle or something? What are the chances that I did or didn't do some harm? Btw....I usually carry around my 3yo. who is about 28lbs and nothing much else. I don't know the exact weight of the box, but I know it was heavier than her!

Oh, and I would guess that I am about 6-8 weeks along.

Well it could have done harm... but most likely not.
Lie down and rest.... for at LEAST a couple of hours.... no excuses REST!!!
Don't carry your 3yr old any more. I had the same age gap with mine... i know it's hard. Tell him you have back ache, so you can't carry him... don't blame the baby (if he knows) or he will resent the baby.

You've had a warning.... please, please don't risk anything like this again. If you are still experiencing pain in the morning , go to see your GP.
Good luck xx

I dont' have the answer you're looking for but I too have noticed that. I should be around 18-19 weeks by now and couple weeks ago was helping my mother move and carried some boxes that were a little heavy. After that for the rest of the day I had aching cramps in my lower abs too.

first of all why the F#$% were you carrying a box in the first place? that is just plain silly!! second of all when you are pregnant all the ligaments and mucsle's in your stomach and back loosen and stretch to make room for the baby. so when you lift heavy things you are straining muscles that are already under stress. some websites say that heavy lifting only harms you and not the baby, but do you really want to risk harming your baby!

HI,

that happened to me a couple of times. I actually got up suddenly the first time and had pains, they went away.

Next was carrying a heavy pram out of the car, and same thing happened.

You just put pressure on the below parts that are stretching.

Just don't lift anything heavy again. Not advisable at all!!

Good luck

Pregnancy symptoms are nausea, vomiting, cramping, tender breasts, mood swings, fatigue, and frequent urination. Other symptoms you listed are not pregnancy symptoms. You can take a urine test the day your period is due or after. Your results are not valid before the day your period is due. If your period is more than a week late with negative urine you need a blood test as pregnancy doesn't always show in urine.

Just go to the doctors/ or ER. Its better safe than sorry. Normally its pain in the lower BACK is what should concern you. You may have just pulled a muscle. I hope baby is ok!!!! Go to doctor....dont take any chances with a life.....

I don't mean to alarm you but you need to go to your Dr.'s office or the emergency room just incase, you can never be too careful. If is nothing then you really don't loose anything getting yourself checked out, if God forbid is something serious, they may be able to do something for you and the Baby. ☺

Good Luck

you really shouldn't be carrying heavy boxes at all, but just to be on the safe side i would be going and seeing my GP or ER, just to make sure everything is OK
good luck
