I would guess it's the thermostat or water pump. When the car is cool remove the radiator cap and start the engine. Most of the time you can see the coolant swirling around in the radiator once it starts building heat indicating the water pump is circulating coolant. The coolant in the radiator should also get hot when your temp guage reaches temp (I usually stick my finger in the radiator neck...but be careful if you do this!!) ...if it's not hot I would replace the thermostat then bleed the air out of the coolant system. Don't forget to put your heater on hot with the vents blowing when you bleed the coolant system so the coolant circulates through the heater core and removes the air here also. Good luck

You reported the automobile over heated multipul cases. i'd have the shop attempt the engine for a blown head gasket. in the event that they discover the heads are ok i'd have them examine the radiator for a clogged middle. how many miles are in this automobile? in case you have close to to 100K on the engine, i'd even have them exchange out the timing belt. mutually as they're in there have them replace the water pump. the water pump is pushed off the timing belt on those engines. so doing the two on the comparable time is the main useful answer. although with the selection to cases the hoses have popped off this motor, i'd think of there is extreme rigidity develop in facet the cooling device. this could be a classic facet of a head gasket concern.

You need to take your car to the shop. Being that old there's probably more than one thing wrong.
