Pope John Paul I (1979)

2007-03-25 12:26:01 · answer #1 · answered by Dr_Adam_Bricker 3 · 0 0

That would of been Pope John Paul I who was in office from August 26-September 28, 1978. His sucessor, elected in the Papal conclave in October that year, to honor his predecessor, took the name Pope John Paul II.

Interesting side note: Pope John Paul I had one of the shortest reigns (33 days)in Papal history and John Paul II one of the longest, only reign that was longer was Pope Pius IX at 31 years.

Hope this info helps!

Pope Jon Paul I. He was known as the smiling pope I hear, since he was always pictured smiling.

That was John Paul I. I was very sad when he died, because he looked like a very grandfatherly man.
