i guess its a bit of both really. the show wouldn't do so well if it wasnt sexy and all the main characters looked like REAL women ( who at the end of the day throw on pj pants and a shirt bc theyre tired from working).
but at the same time it does show that women can be a bit of everything.. sexy smart.. tough.. and beautiful at the same time.. but still.. a bit unrealistic

I've seen Charmed and liked it too, probably because the girls are hot, but I don't think that's a bad thing. Buffy was good for the same reason.
As far as sexist goes, well yeh - they've got a point. For that matter sex is sexist. I think the term means assigning roles or status based on sex, and sex is all about that for many people.
So what's that have to do with TV? It's girls being girls, and the redeeming part is they show being a girl doesn't mean you can't get things done. In that way, it's anti-sexist.
The anti-woman thing tends to confuse equality with sameness. What fun life would not be if we were all the same.
When Communist countries adopted unisex policies it just made people look for an outlet. The concept failed and faded away, and that is happening here, too, thank God.
In Orwell's "1984," sex was subverted into work, political and physical activity. I don't ever see that happening for real. It's all been tried somewhere and it doesn't work. The French are right- "Vive le difference." I don't want us to be the same, do you?
Maybe it will take a while, but some people will have to get over the pride each of us has in our sexuality, and the differences between us that are so complimentary.
In the mean time, equality of treatment is a different issue, and a sticky one when you consider stuff like child-bearing, differences in pay, etc.
One of the problems is that women are sometimes taken less seriously because they are concerned with beauty and attractiveness. Well, that's what men want. A girl shouldn't have to give up on all that just to be taken seriously.
I have faith that we'll work it out in time, but we should congratulate ourselves on the success women have achieved over the years and expect more.
Another job for the Charmed girls. More power to 'em.

In response to your specific example, Piper was always my favorite and she was always the one who was dressed normally (i.e. not skanky). I never found that TV show to be anti-women. I could see people arguing that it was anti-men in some instances, but that's another question in another section. :)
Someone above had it right when they said that "sex sells". That's the ultimate truth of television. If the girls were overweight or plain-looking, the show would have been moved to the Sci-fi network and watched by few. It's just a fact of the world we live in.

Feminists are divided on this issue.
On the one hand there is women's sexual liberation, which allows them to express themselves sexually for example in the way they dress, however they want.
On the other hand as a result of this they are being objectified.
It is the old lemming feminist pattern: Blame men for something (sexual repression) and make changes, then blame men for the predictable result of those changes and point to it as proof of oppression and victimhood.
Nothing done to actually benefit women, but lots done to attack men. Feminism.

The media always portray idealistic versions of both men and women. But we need strong women in society and we can do all those things. We don't have to be sex symbols to do it, but there is nothing wrong with being sexy. Just remember, don't rub the bottle unless you are ready for the genie. LOL

To hear some people tell it, recognizing biological differences between men and women and recognizing that they're wired differently is sexism.
I don't go for that witchcraft stuff to begin with--and besides, there is a link between feminism and witchcraft.
