This might mean no sound card. Do you have a sound card fitted and if so do you have the drivers installed?
To check if your sound card is ok, go to the Control Panel, click on System, click the Hardware tab, then the Device Manager button, look down the list to Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
If there's a yellow triangle over it there's a problem and it usually has something to do with drivers.

If they worked up until now and suddenly they don't work--go
looking for your little brother, because he (or the dog) has
been messing with all those wires on back of your CPU.
If you know where and how to re-plug it---remove it and use
a rough cloth and wipe down the plug-in good. then re-connect
and check all your volumes (on the speakers/on your taskbar/
on your media player--wherever. If this does not work,--go
borrow a friend's speakers and try them,,altho, I really doubt
it's the speakers because they last almost forever.

Try the system restore:
Go To:
start
programs
accessories
systems tools
system restore
This process is completely reversable. And does not remove your personal files. Just go back one checkpoint at a time until your puter is working good again. You may need to reinstall some programs but this is the easiest and safest way I have found to correct most problems.

Make sure the speakers are plugged into the right port. Also make sure you have not muted the sound on the computer as well.
