Who is this 'us'? I have a slight Swedish accent. I've been told it's very cute, so I'm not worried about it much.

I am a non-native speaker of the English language and even I can tell a British accent from a New Zealander accent from an Australian accent from an Irish accent from a .... Well, you get the idea. I can also tell what region of the US someone is from by the way they speak.

Maybe being a non-native speaker gives me an edge.

Language is a living thing. Always changing and evolving. And we sound like them. They were speaking English first.
