What ever works and is good on gasoline. That way you pockets won't get wholes from digging into them to fill the tank.

Depends if you are the teen or the parent. As a parent, I'd say the jetta is just fine. Of course, I said the same about the Escort ZX2 that I handed down to my son when he started driving. After lowering, shocks, tinting, and several tickets (it turns out that an Escort can beat a Honda Civic in the quarter mile) I may have been wrong.
No matter what you choose, you'll end up wtih gray hair.....

If its a first car, a good sports utility would be good, a beat up one would be even better, so they could practice and if they, knock on wood, hit something, a brand new car wouldnt get damaged. Dont but anything brand new b.c insurance would be too much for an teenage driver.

I would say a used toyota. They have great reliability and you can get them for a good price if you go back a few years in model.
