You did the right thing by evacuating. A tornado warning versus a tornado watch means one has been detected and will hit somewhere in the warning area.

According to the National Climatic Data Center, 75 Tornadoes were reported in Lubbock County, Texas between 01/01/1950 and 10/31/2006.

As far as the possibility goes, if there is a tornado warning, there is a 100% chance there is a tornado. The chances of it hitting your location is almost impossible to tell. Obviously a tornado is not going to hit everything in the warning area, but it's not a chance that I would take.

It's better to unnecessarily sit in a basement for a short time than risk injury or life.

Same probability that a tornado wiped out parts of Clovis the 23rd. So better head to shelter if the sirens go off. When they blow there is an extreme danger of a torando or funnel in your area. If scientists could actually tell where a tornado is going hit land to the pin-point, that would be great. They are working on it. But now they can just about tell the most likely place using the different radars they have.
