I think parents should moniter what children should watch, not the cartoon moniter the children. As in take care of your children, put limits on TV, games, etc., because if you let these things take control of your children's lives then, yes, they will have a negative impact on your children.
I personally think that children spend too much time in front of the TV altogether than actually what they are watching. THAT is having a more negative impact as more children become obese and have coronary problems than they ever had twenty years ago.
Though I agree children shouldn't watch shows that promote violence, sex, and drugs, it is the parents primary responsibility to monitor their TV, because they are the parents and have an obligation for the well-being of their children.

Well, first it depends on the cartoon. Cartoons such as Family Guy and South Park are shows created for adults, not for children, and they shouldn't be watching them, as they weren't designed for them to be watching.
I don't think that cartoons today are bad for children, or ever have been. Cartoons, actually, generally tend to be a large part of a childs life. They tend to be more entertaining to children and let them tap into their imaginations more.
Cartoons in general are not damaging our youth. They have been around for decades as enducational tools and positve entertainment tools for childen.
As for shows such as South Park and Family Guy, yes, if young children watch them, they might be negativley influenced, but in the same sence, parents shouldn't be letting kids watch these shows. There are things such as parental controlls and just monitoring what children watch.
Saying that the next power rangers is going to have sex and drugs is a big statement and I don't think a valid one. Mainly because look at power rangers, sponge bob square pants or Pokemon. These are childrens shows and they don't have any of those elements in them, and you are comparing shows created for adults to shows created for children. That dosen't go together, and they have broadcasting rules for viewing ages and parents and adults have enough common sense not to change childrens shows into a southpark or family guy.
Just need to realize that some shows are geared for certain audiences and just because they are animated dosen't mean they fall into the same category and for the same audience, as that's not true, and you should focus more on the actually shows aimed for children and find the negative aspects of those shows and bring up your argument, then using adult orientated shows.
Now, I'll admit some shows to have a bit more violence then others, and this can probably be seen in more anime, such as Naruto or other anime, but, these things are toned down and not too excessive and I don't really think makes a negative influence that much on children. And if they did, then Japan wouldn't be creating anime and having those things for childrens shows if they really did negativly impact the children.
But my stance is, I don't think that cartoons are bad or demoralizing children. Although I'll agree there are some cartoon, that are adult cartoons, created for adults, that children shouldn't be watching, but, they don't represent the majority of cartoons found on TV.

I have an 8yr old and my wife and i usually only allow her to watch movies that fit her age. When it comes to tv we really don't watch much of it since all that sex, drugs and violence are no longer kept within movies, tv or cartoons.. it's now made its way into everything. Music is also just as bad as the rest of it all.. there is nothing out there that we as parents who care about our children can call safe and appopriate. My suggestion to you would be to monitor what shows your child watches and make sure that they are of good quality.

Oh, please.... will you stop with that garbage already.
TV, music and movies DO NOT damage children.
BAD PARENTING damages children far more than any media out there.
So, why not pull your head outta your azz?
