The exception of course would be elixir strings. I was just wondering if most guitar strings are just the same strings but repackaged. They all seem to play/sound the same to me. Some are a lot more expensive so I would like to know if its worth it buying more expensive ones.

Ummm... you pose an interesting question.

ALL guitar strings are not made in the same factory, but MOST strings come from one of a handful of factories... so your question is really 2 different ones, eh?

There are, I think, 6 factories in the U.S. that make strings for everyone, then 2 Korean factories, and 2 Chinese factories that make strings primarily for the OEM market.

I don't think so. I have a Fender Classic Guitar and I can tell a big difference in the sound of strings from different sources. Perhaps strings for accustic guitars are from the same source but I can tell you for certain that strings for classic guitars are not all the same
