If you have seen Casino Royale you noticed that James Bond remains emotionally detached from everyone including women, and he doesn't trust anybody. He has an emotional shield up all the time. Could it be because of his past?

His job is 99.9% of his being. He has to stay unemotional to those he interacts with because he may have to arrest or kill them. Since he never knows who this culprit could be or who is helping them, he has to keep his focus on logistics instead of emotions. Which is also why he's able to 'be with' so many different girls as if each were fresh & new. This was a great question, I just hope my answer was deserving of it! :-)

Most definitely. If you go to www.sonypictures.com and click on the Casino Royale link you can read the James Bond dossier. to sum it up: He was an orphan. He grew up in boarding school. Joined the Royal Navy and became a Seal. Excelled in most activities except respect for authority. Eventually went to work for MI-6 and then gained the 00 status...If you are interested in James Bond it is a good read...very interesting where they say Bond comes from...it has all the answers to your question...

Wow, you really missed the whole jist of this movie. The timing of this story was just after he got his 00 status, and M is unsure that he is emotionally detached enough! He has been trained to be emotionally detached. That is why the scene where he sits in the shower with the hysterical woman is so revealing...aha, maybe he's not detached.

James Bond was an orphan who joined the Navy, and he often almost got in trouble.
