Most of these businesses sell the collected items to the next level of recycled items handlers--- usually a salvage business that in turn -- seperates the items into classifications --- crushes these items down-- and ships the items to the national collection points where all of this stuff is sold off to the people who actually do the "melt down" of this stuff to place these materials back into the loop of resources !!!

The redemption centers generally crush down the cans into big squares that are sent to facilities that further break down the cans so that they can be reused to make new cans.

Are you talking about beverage containers? Because if that's it they return the containers to the bottler that sold them the product in the first place.

They sell them to recyclers.
