What is the fastest way to lower 40 yard dash time?

why is it that i run fast on the field but cant run a 40 for my life and all my friends that run 4.6s and 4.7s i can beat them or keep up in a foot race and to get faster i was thinking of running with a sled with weights can anyone tell me if this helps and any of there suggestions

I'd suggest you look to your coach for some advice. I was always very "quick" - I was difficult to beat in the first 10 yards, but then I was overtaken. My coach pointed out that my stride changed after a quick start, and suggested I focus on lifting my knees. Believe it or not, this changed me from a 5.1 to a 4.7. Wierd huh? There's a reason they're called coaches.

Ankle weights work just as well and dont run for the 40 yrd run as if you have to reach the 60 yd line even if you run into a wall!! Reason being we naturally start to slow just before the finish line instead of maintaining speed and running past the line, run for 15 minutes with the ankle weights and then time yourself when they're off
