I do believe it is the first movie that raised farting to an art form and acknowledged it's part in comedy.

As funny as it was it wasn't the first. I don't know what the first was but before Blazing Saddles there was the Trinity trilogy: A 3 movie set, it's an old style western. Two of them contained scenes of farting humor which is why Trinity eats nothing but beans and bread in all 3 movies.
