Attack of the Super Ego. Losing face is far more important to Bush than losing lives. As long as the war does not directly affect him, Bush will fight and watch others die until the bitter end.

Actually Nixon did have a strategy it was bomb the hell out of Hanoi until the say uncle. In 1972 Nixon lifted the Johnson era restrictions on bombing in North Vietnam. The B-52 strikes destroyed North vietnam's energy and communications infrastructure and anti-aircraft defenses.
The bombing brought the North Vietnamese back to the Paris peace conference and eventually freed our POW's.
It failed when Nixon was impeached and CONGRESS cut militray aid to South Vietnam. It sounds like histroy is repeating itself. Congress is trying to hand the enemy a bloodless victory.

What is victory considered to be in Iraq? Bush said he wanted to stay until Iraq could handle their own country. Iraq is doing better militarily and now needs to work on the political aspects of bringing their country together.

The death squads are members of their government. Don't you feel Maliki needs to address these things, address the oil profit sharing between Sunni and Shia, and get rid of the death squads? Get rid of their corruption. Shouldn't he finish the elections to get their government set up? We can't do those things.

Only they can do it and they must. Push them to get it together and meet their benchmarks. That is a victory for us as well as them. It takes more than military action to reach the goals.

You weren't born yet, but Nixon never had a "no win policy".
The Democrats cut off Funding. Millions died. Over a million just in Cambodia.
Could this be : "DE-JA VU"?????
Will Democrats cause millions of deaths again???
If so, they won't care, if it brings them Money & Power.
PHILIP L, ABOVE, HAS IT CORRECT ALL THE WAY.

A "no win policy" clearly isn't Bush's policy - that distinction belongs to the liberals in congress.

I don't really agree with your assessment. I was in the military and I wasn't really concerned with politics. As a soldier it was not my job to worry about politics.

The majority of the people in the Military are not really concerned about politics, they have a job to do and go where they are required to go.
