A puppy would be better in my estimation. Rabbits are easier to take care of but you can't really interact with them, plus they often bite you when you try to picke them up. Dogs interact extensively with their owners, plus if properly cared for they live much longer (10 years in dogs vs. 2 for rabbits). They require more care but the payoff is worth it.

How much time to do you have on your hands buddy? Let's get real. If you have the time to train a puppy, walk it, feed it, let all "it's time" be more important than your time...get a puppy. If you don't have any time and would rather meet chicks/dudes or spend at some place other than "home base", get a fish! Rabbits don't take as much time as a puppy....but person....if its about you....worry about you....not a pet that is only an accessory....you are talking about something that is a lifetime committment. Think carefully! What time do you have for this animal.

i think it depends on your commitment level and how much time you are willing to spend on a new pet.
each of your choices has pros and cons, for instance:
Dogs:
PROS: the walking can be good for excersize
they are very loyal and loving
they can be taught tricks
CONS: you need to walk it everyday
at first they need to be crate and potty trained
they require a lot of attention
they can bark
food, toys and obedience lessons are costly
some dogs shed a lot of fur
some dogs make people's allergies flare up more than others. (keep in mind that you may not have allergies but family members could)
if you live in an apartment you may not be allowed to own a dog because of noise restrictions.
RABBITS:
PROS:
if you have a busy lifestyle a rabbit doesn't require as much time probably only 30mins of floortime a day
they are inexpensive to care for.
they don't shed too much
with time they will become less shy and more friendly and calm
CONS:
cleaning their cage can be a less than fun task and if you don't keep up on it, they will smell quite a bit.
they grow quickly and you may need to upgrade your cage
rabbits generally do best with a pal as they can get lonely and depressed. (could be pro)
you need to watch their teeth and claws as they sometimes need a good trim (teeth has to be done by vet)
Those are just a few of the pros and cons of these two animals. pick the pet that you would be able to take the best care of based on your lifestyle.
Goodluck

amazed me how many people think rabbits smell! they will only smell if you dont take care of them properly and clean them out..same as if you didnt clear up dog poo!! would still smell wouldnt it!
anyways i think the decision is upto you! i would love a dog one day but at the moment i know i cannot afford the cost of looking after a dog and also give it all the attention it needs. i couldnt take it for long walks in the park etc. i have a rabbit and he is perfect for me. i can afford to give him good housing and pay his vet fees and also spent time with him often.
it all really does depend on what your looking for but really do look into each one and realise having a pet is expensive and is hard work at time. also they both can be abit destructive in the house lol
good luck in ur search for a new pet

Get a puppy because their much easier to take care of and rabbits just sit in a cage and watch you.

Personally, whoever on here is saying that rabbits have no personality, really have never had a rabbit.... I have a small breeding herd of Holland Lop rabbits and my bucks are the biggest goofballs you could imagine.... rabbits are more like cats... they love to be affectionate, but it tends to come on their terms.... they don't go for walks, they can be litter box trained, they can have a cage in an apartment and roam (so long as you have something to protect your wires...)
if you want a pal to go to the beach and run with you, get a dog.... if you want a small companion who will hang out with you at home, get a rabbit, or a small dog... I have a 3 lb chihuahua and she is kinda like having a dog and a cat together in one... she is trained to go on a pad in the house, so she doesn't have to go outside, she hangs out with me in the house, she loves to go for runs on the beach.... so maybe there is your solution....
go for a small breed of dog, like a chihuahua, pomeranian, Schnauzer, etc.... but becareful... make sure that you don't get them too small... the smaller they are, they tend to have more health problems.... they are like having a newborn baby....
Please remember.... any animal is a big thing to take on.... an animal is for life, not just for a holiday... please do your research before getting any pet.... don't do it on an impulse.... :)

I had rabbits and all the other rodent type pets growing up. They are fun to look at but they are not something you want to hang out with all day. A dog is the best way to go in my opinion. Of course you can always eat the rabbit later on after you get tired of it.

Get a puppy they're cute and fun to play with and they learn to really love you. Rabbits are rodents with short life spans and some of them don't like people or being handled. When they bite you it hurts like hell, and their teeth never stop growing.

I <3 <3 <3 bunnies but puppies are better pets because bunnies stay in cages all day & they are destructive, smelly & messy, altho puppies can be destructive & messy too, but at least u don't have a cage to clean. puppies don't have to stay in a cage, they live longer & i think they bond better with people than bunnies. I <3 my dog to infiniti!!! a lot of people have written books about how dogs have changed their lives. u don't see any books about how bunnies have changed people's lives.
