Honestly, step it up, most truly preppy people shop at Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, Lacoste, etc. It's more the just the clothes you put on, it's an attitude, persona. Start with his clothes: top of the line polos and long sleeve oxfords like Ralph Lauren:

Loafers are a must, as are a yachting shoes:

And thats just Ralph Lauren I could build you numerous outfits from all the labels I named. Next it is your dialogue, Most preps are notorious for having private schooling and Ivy league linguistic skills. Enunciate, never just slur, speak clearly. Take up tennis, croquet, or join your local boating/yachting club. Study up on the terminalogy, perhaps even join a country club. Work on your posture, you must always stand up extremely straight, no slouching! Don't loop you thumb through your belt loops, (it's terrible for the hang of clothing). make sure the clothing is tailored just for you, nothing should be hanging loosely, have funny draping or dangling off your backside. Your hair can be slightly shaggy, but never messy, a clean shaven face is a must also! Starting to get the image of a real prep now? Still think you brother is one? Trust me these are the exact type I grew up around, I have the practice of spoting a true one miles away, it's the way the stare down their noses at even people who are exqual to them.

well, prep is like a social grouping, so there isn't really a right or wrong answer. To be a prep, you 1st have to believe u r a prep. Ignore wat everyone else thinks. Then, start wearing AE and clothes that have bright colors, without looking gay. Then, just act as happy as possible. Hang-out with the preps, and eventually, u will b a prep. If it takes a while, don't worry. u cant expect 2 change ur self over night! Good luck!!! keep us posted on ur progress.

As to whether your brother feels he is preppie (preppy or prep) or not, please educate him with further information from the site of the sources that I have given to you.
Fashion-wise, the term "preppy" is associated not with dramatic designer fashions, but with conservative clothing and accessory brands such as Lacoste, Brooks Brothers, L.L. Bean, J.Crew, J. Press, Polo Ralph Lauren, Vineyard Vines, Tod's, Barbour, Vera Bradley, Lilly Pulitzer, CK Bradley, North Face, and Patagonia. An example of preppy attire would be a button-down Oxford cloth shirt, cuffed khakis, and cordovan loafers.
Ivy League can also refer to a style of men's dress, popular in the late 1950s, and said to have originated on college campuses. The clothing store J. Press represents perhaps the quintessential Ivy League dress manner, with two of its four locations found at Harvard and Yale University. It is epitomized by the sack suit which is defined as being a 3-to-2 blazer without darts and a single vent. The pants are cuffed without pleats. It was also characterized by the use of natural fabrics, shirts with button-down collars, and penny loafers. In suits, the Ivy League style was promoted by clothier Brooks Brothers and included natural shoulder single-breasted suit jackets. In 1957 and 1958, about 70% of all suits sold were in the "Ivy League" style.

Depends on the definition of prep. Clothing style, you have to wear things like American Eagle, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Hollister. Aeropostale isn't. J Crew, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Banana Republic (for late teens-twenties) are very good. Lifestyle, very chill, relaxed, and luxurious. Notice I didn't say rich, you don't have to be. Aviator or large lensed sunglasses. Well groomed, but don't show it too much. No greasy gelled hair, but tousled hair is great. Scents like Royall Musque are good (for guys). E-mail me if you want to know more.

Lacoste, L.L. Bean, *abercrombie, hollister, aeroppastale, AE, pac sun*( though most stuff is too tight, short, or low cut to really be preppy) Talbots, Gap, etc. stuf like that. As far as ur brother goes, tell him bright clothes, plaid, polos, bermudas, white nikes, messy hair, and to be a gentlemen to girls. Yeah, the biggest part of being preppy is to have a great attitude, polite, and to be happy.
thats it

Being preppy, isn't about acting stuckup, or hanging out with the most popular of people. It's just a style of clothing. I should know, I hangout with all types of people from gothics, punks, sporty, druggies, you name it, and i won best dressed for my senior year. So tell him to wear the clothes and eventually he'll feel comfortable.
