I dreamed I was eating a ham and cheese sandwich and woke up with mustard on my chin. Definately an OKE (out of kitchen experience).

Nope. There's nothing supernatural or mysterious about lucid dreams. You can train yourself to lucid dream. Just occasionally ask yourself in the course of a day "am I awake or is this so fantastic that it must be a dream". The sure-fire way to test whether you're awake or dreaming is to look at a written message, then turn away. If you're dreaming, you won't remember the message. There was an excellent article on this topic in New Scientist magazine a few years back. Zachary9's answer is spot-on.
