We had a chance to win but thanks to some really brilliant leadership, we lacked the necessary resources to stabilize and rebuild Iraq.
Now it's too little, too late. No amount of troops now is going to fix it. Really all we are doing is containing the problem, we aren't solving it. The latest "surge" doesn't come close to fixing anything, it's just quieted a few neighborhoods in Baghdad down a little. The root of the problem is a disdain for the occupying force, and a desire for the Shia to get revenge o nthe Sunnis for their years of torture and domestic terrorism.
It is my belief that we should simply arm the Peshmerga and Shia militas and let them go after the Sunnis. We don't need to fight this fight, and frankly, I'm sure the Shia would love to get their revenge on those bastards themselves. We never should have alienated Muqtada Al Sadr, he could have been an important ally, and Iran wouldn't have so much influence over the area as they do now.

Don't you find it amazing that the greatest and most powerful country (U.S.A.) in this world, cannot win a war in such a long long time? This war has been going on longer than any other war in modern history, luckily (tongue-in-cheek) the death casualties are much less than any other war. The benefits of the advancement in medical science, but now we will have thousands and thousands more disabled by way of lost limbs, brains, and mobility. To answer your question, we are losing because the commander-in-chief was a draft-dodger so what do you expect.

We demolished a dictator, a good portion of their military and initiated a representative government. Now we are fighting the resistance and terrorists who aspire to hatred and domination and are resorting to their tactics of terror and murder to deny the Iraqi people their freedom.
Yes, we are winning the war - I only wish more Americans realized that and weren't quite so idealistic in their expectations.

All depends on who you ask, if you ask 70% of the American people they would say, " who give a hoot" just bring the toops home now" If you ask George W Bush, He would probably say "who gives a hoot" were staying I've got another two years.

Winning has not been defined by Bush. could be installing a working democracy OR protecting the oil.
