Well, my question is, is this coin a restrike or an original? Also, what is it's value?

It is a Robert Bashlow copy, he got hold of the original defaced die and made a transfer die from it, back in 1961. Your coin does look like it has been mishandled since then. I have a couple of them, as well as a Brasher doubloon copy he made. He was a scoundrel and a very interesting person. He died somewhere in Africa and no one knows of what. That too is a mystery. He made quite a few copy dies of rare coins. Instead of me going on here, go to www.rebelstatescurrency.com add /bashlow.html after com, for some reason Yahoo here omits it when I submit, they have some info for you. One thing though, good Bashlow copies of the Confederate cent are selling in the $75.00 range.

A Mr. Robert Lovett, Jr. did make cent pieces for the Confederacy but fearing being arrested for treason did not deliver them for distribution.

His dies have twice been used to make restrikes. From the condition of your coin I would say it was a restrike from the 1960's.

They have very little collector value.
