i want to go to a catholic college if possible. i am very scholarly and love to learn. i want to go to a pretty academic college, but i want to it be fun too. i figure yale and harvard are out of the question.. but im considering notre dame or villanova? or those to high? im also trying to get into a school that will give me a scholarship for most of tuition... im only willing to pay about $10,000 a year out of my own pocket.

I plan on majoring in theology/philosophy... and possibly doing some work with literature.

There are different types of financial aid. . . some are "need-based," where you will be granted money (either as a grant, which you don't have to pay back, or a loan, which you do) based on your parents' income and savings and your own savings. Some are "merit-based" and do not have to be paid back, and are based solely on academic and test merit. To get one of these, you need to be academically superior to most of the other people applying to the school. . . so find a school with average stats well below yours. Many schools are more than $30,000 a year to attend. . . $10,000 doesn't get you very far these days.

Take a look at the Jesuit schools--it's a type of Catholic school (that does not include Notre Dame) that emphasis learning. There is a list of Jesuit schools easily available online. St. Joe's in Philadelphia, Holy Cross in Massachussetts, Fairfield in Connecticut, Boston College, Georgetown, and many more are included.

If money is a major concern, find several to apply to. Financial aid differs so much from school to school.

Notre Dame and Villanova may be matches or reaches for you (you don't say what your board scores are), but if it's your dream, give it a shot. But remember that the better merit aid will come from schools that are not as hard to get into.

As for the guy who said you should go to England. . . there is almost no chance of getting financial aid for an out-of-country school.

Notre Dame, BYU, Rutgers, or if you go to the UK: Lampeter, Oxford, Leeds... depending on if you like partying or not.

I think the UK is probably better for theology, if you can afford it or get a scholarship.

I suggest going to a state school. I graduated from high school with a perfect GPA, along with honors of being one of the best milers in the state, and secretary of my class. I got a great scholarship, pay little out of pocket, and I major in the hard sciences.

Don't waste your talent on soft sciences. They do not have anything worthwhile to teach you. Social science, psychology, sociology and other "sciences" do not deserve the title of "science".

I think it really depends on your major. There are some universities that have a great engineering program, but a not-so-great psychology program.
That would be the first question I would ask you.

wow u don't need all that in high school to go to a good school. i graduated high school with 2.3 GPA on 4 scale and ended up in Purdue....7th best school in US. it got too expensive 23K a year so i transferred to a different school.
with your impressive grades and activities u can go pretty much anywhere u want.......if i was you i would peak a school for its name. u wont get too much education from a college unless u can teach yourself and schools with good names are really expensive for most people but u can get tons of scholarships. so i would suggest that u dont settle for anything small and unheard of.

Hey college is not about fun. You hve to work hard and then have fun.Yale and harvard is a good college. Why resist. In your college exam, they choose your college that fits you. maybe go to Devry University.
