I want to send my friend some gifts and food in South Africa. Where is there a list of what I am allowed / prohibited to send? (As far as food and toiletries?)

i will be more concerned about my gift being stolen before reaching my friend as apposed to sending her restricted items.
when sending the gift make sure u insure it and register it, if its valuable consider using dhl, or a similar company.
Restricted and declaration upon arrival required for meat, dangerous drugs, flick knives, ammunition and explosives, indecent and obscene literature.
you can only send her 50 ml of perfume .if u send more, she will have to pay duty.
if you have any more concerns read the following info

I agree with another answer try using a courier service instead of the post office, also dont make the parcel too valuable because then you friend will have to pay customs duty on it.

I dont think you can post aerosol cans, and anything in glass could break. Liquids and creams can leak.

If I was you I would transfer money into the friends bank account, then she could buy food and toiletries here. If you have to send a gift, order a book/cd/dvd from www.kalahari.net

I regularly send stuff to SA from the U.S , I usually send it via the U.S postal service and i only send it Airmail. It has always got there. It usually takes about two weeks to get there and i make sure that i "insure" it . Also be sure to get a tracking number and mark the package "return to sender if undelivered'. Write the address you are sending it to in dark black ink(use a Sharpie) in at least 3 different sides.
I just sent a 9Lb package and with all the other costs involved it cost me $60 .
Unfortunantly there is a slip where you have to state everything that is in the package. If anything is very expensive>dont write it on the list."forget to do it".
Also all food must be vacuum sealed, you cannot send seeds of any sort. Get better details on what can be sent from post office.
By the way , the packages i sent all have gotten to their destination!!

food is not allowed as far as i know. make sure you send your friend an invoice for the items too as the post office people might want to see it judge the value and hence the custom charges

Why deliver a verify once you may flow money out of your economic business enterprise to their economic business enterprise . For this you % your families economic business enterprise acct, economic business enterprise handle, clearing code, fast code. your loved ones gets the money between one million-3 days .you will possibly desire to pay a $40 5 value. in case you haven't any longer have been given a economic business enterprise you should use money-gram for a miles less value( $14) you in basic terms % a drivers licence for this. in case you utilize money gram they gets the money with the help of day after today or comparable day.

I honeslty wouldn't, for thew simple well-documented reason it'd be stolen somewhere along the postal line, and nobody wou.d see a thing, happens all the time. Maybe insure it. Or register it.

There are no prohibited food or toiletry stuff. Ask your friend to check with the customs (or you can check that in www.sars.gov.za) for possible restriction on qunatities.

Rather Fedex it (or DHL).
sending it through our post office can be a bit risky.

Ask at any US Post Office. I am surprised you didn't think of that on your own.
