Hi,

I've had 4 Mollies for several months now. 2 Males, and 2 Females. One of the females has, over the last couple of months, seemingly got much fatter. I assumed she was pregnant, but as yet she hasn't delivered any fry! I've now put her in a breeding hatch now, but I don't want to keep her in there unnecessarily. I've taken a picture, and a video and was wondering if anyone could tell me whether she is just "plump" or pregnant - and if she is pregnant how much longer should I expect to have to wait, as I said before she has been this size for nearly 2 months now and I don’t want to keep her in there for any longer than she needs to be!

All advice appreciated.

Check at her behind, there should be a very dark spot there. In the photo, her fin is in front of it, so hard to see. If you see a dark spot around her backside, she's pregnant.

The solution to find out if your fish is pregnant is quite simple.

Monitor your fish as much as possible. What you are watching for is to see if the fish log on to the internet and go to Yahoo Answers. If and when this happens, and your fish asks the question "Am I Pregnant?" on the Yahoo Answers forum, then your fish is most definately pregnant. A doctor's or veterinarian's opinion is no longer necessary to determine pregnancy. A simple query on the internet will suffice.

I recognize that this solution may seem out of the ordinary but it's really quite routine. However, if your fish start asking strangers on Yahoo Answers to do their homework for them or question whether or not astronauts really did land on the moon, then you should start to worry.

I dun think that ur molly is getting 'plump'--if she is, then the others should also have bulging stomachs! Yup, I think that's she's pregnant. But again, one might never know. If she gets pregnant, then congratz!! If not, dun worry.
Have a good time!!

For privacy I suggest you replace the wmv file with an anonymous one. A well-known video player shows what I think is your name.

first of all i would ask the fish. she would know if her period was late. then do a home pregnancy test and have it confirmed with her family vet. if your fish is worried its beswt to find out sooner rather than later so she can explore her options.
hope this helps!

Fishes never get pregnant, only mammals.
