As Joe said,,Gasoline is figured at an avg of about 6lbs per US gallon for Aviation Gasoline.

That's a good rule of thumb, easy to remember.
But "Car Gasoline",,Road Fuel is a bit heavier

Here's a comparrison:

Weight of One Gallon (U.S.) of Water, Gasoline, and Ethanol
1 gallon of water equals 8.33 lbs.
1 gallon of gasoline equals 5.8 to 6.5 lbs.
1 gallon of ethanol equals 6.59 lbs.

Weight of gasoline varies according to it's grade and blending components.

It also varies according to temperature.

"Average Road Fuel" is usually considered to be
6.25 lbs/ Gal at 72*F.

Temp is always figured when doing tests on gasoline,,,such as mileage, emmissions, power content, etc.

It's Denser>Heavier when it's Cooler,,
Thinner>Lighter when warmer.

Hence the old "Fuel Economy Tip" to buy Gasoline in early morning,,,after it's had time to cool off from the day's heat.
Rather than late afternoon,,when it's at it's highest temp.

About 6.2 lbs per gallon. The weight varies by formulation. For example, in some parts of the country gasoline is 10% ethanol, which is heavier than gasoline (1 gallon of ethanol weighs 6.6 lbs.)

I seem to remember that gasoline (not diesel fuel) is about 5 pounds per gallon. Water is 8 pounds and gas will float on top of it.

Aviation gas is figured to weigh 6 pounds per gallon. I imagine that would hold true for car gas as well
