I went to the doctor two days ago for what I thought was a UTI (I get them often) The doctor came back and said I didn't have one. He told me all the possiblities and we thought it was probable from using instead softcups (my body was prolly rejecting it) but now two days later the pain is subsiding (good) but I swear my urine smells like a UTI. Is this just b/c I'm used to getting them that I think I have one, or could I have felt the symtoms too soon and now it is one?? Please anwser, the doctor made me feel like an idiot for even going in.
P.S. STD is out of the problem, trust me there's no way.

Well I have had several UTI's that I knew I had days before they showed up on a common dip test (urine sample in a cup, diagnosed while you are in the office). The only way to know for sure now is to get a urine culture or repeat the UA in the office. If you are still having symptoms but it doesn't show up as a UTI consider being tested for other things (I know you say no way for STD's but it never hurts) or even having them check for a yeast infection...so many other things can look like a UTI based on the symptoms. Also, if you have frequent UTI's you might consider getting on a low dose daily antibiotic or an after intercouse antibiotic schedule.

Any time a doctor makes you feel like an idiot for being concerned about changes in your body then it is time to change doctors.

If you are having frequent UTI's then you have a vested interest in finding out why that it as recurrent UTI's can be an indicator of a serious medical condition. Dipstick tests (where they place the swab in your urine) is a quick & easy way to test for UTI's but they are not always the most accurate. Try a culture test and/or a urinalysis done. Get the STD tests just so that your doctor has that already ruled out which will help with reaching an accurate diagnosis.

If your body was rejecting the softcups, you would have had a yeast infection (like candida or some other type of bacterial infection) not a UTI as that is an infection of your urinary tract (very separate from your vagina where the softcup would be).

So you answer your question, go to a new doctor and get a complete urinalysis, std battery, & culture tests done. If the symptoms return or worsen, then at least you have a doctor you are comfortable with & who would have enough of a background on you (with the test results) to know where to direct you to next.
