In Texas if you do not start with a CJ degree then you are required to gain practical experience by working with an agency for a certain amount of time. When that time is completed then you can take the test to become licensed.

Not sure about Texas, but in Illinois you have to get a license through the state. We have classroom courses that you are required to take before you get your license to practice. Last I checked, no internships are required.
