People who have a genuine faith and relationship with Lord Jesus Christ are not at all affected by this. In fact, I doubt any true followers of Jesus even had anything to do with Ted Haggard or "preachers" of his type.
I imagine a few Ted Haggard cultists got pretty shaken up--- If they have any brain cells at all, they might rethink who it is they were actually worshiping, and learn from their mistakes.
Never follow (and worship) an ordinary man!!!
Some people actually want to be cheated-- to actually follow Jesus' instructions is very difficult and they would have to change not only their lives, but their very hearts. Far easier to join some church "club" with a leader like Ted Haggard or Jim Baker, or so many others. Then one can feel like they are 'saved' but never have to go deep inside and actually develop their love for God and His pure devotee and son, Jesus.
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it; You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.”
Jesus came to show us how to do this-- Those idiots, like Ted Haggard, have it all backwards and have totally missed the point.

No real believers gave up God. Not just in this case, but in a lot of churches and christians, pay attention to what these christians do outside of their church! If it smells like a rat, then it is a rat! A true christian, and i mean true to Jesus Christ, didn't let this ruin their relationship with God!
God said in his word that His people are known by their fruits. In case you'all don't know what that means, people will know if you are a true christian by the way you act, talk, and do, both inside the church and out of church.

I doubt that many did. I'm guessing most people laughed at the hypocrisy of Haggard and his ilk.

I gave it up when it was learned that priests had been molesting children for decades and God never intervened. When the Catholic Church admitted that 40% of its priests are gay, it didn't help either.

They should all give up on organized religion, especially those with the hypocritical TV evangelists. Instead, they should seek God in nature and within themselves.
