The motorcycle I purchased is a 2001 Kawasaki Drifter 1500, fuel injected, and has been idle and unridden in a covered garage for over a year. The tank is currently about half full of the old gas.

That gas is bad! dont run it it will cause numerous posible problems. drain it, add some new gas and shake it up and drain that. until it looks clean. once gas has gone bad stabil wont help. You also want to clean out the fuel line, and any other accesible fuel system parts. Add a fuel system cleaner to the first couple tanks when you get it running. gas starts to break down after 90 days and staybil must be added when the gas is still good. Good luck, and safe riding. p.s. check the plugs and change any fluids before starting.

It would be better if the tank were empty or full. Half full invites water to condense in the tank. As the vapor pressure of the gas changes due to temperature changes air is pulled in and out of the tank leaving behind moisture. I would dump this gas and look inside the tank for signs of rust. A year is not that long so you probably do not have corrosion but check anyway.

I would smell it. If it still smells like gas it will usually fire the vehicle. Take it to the gas station and fill the tank then add some Techron fuel injection cleaner and go for a ride to burn the old/new gas mix out.

If it doesn't smell like gasoline it means its turning to varnish and that means you need to drain the fuel system.

I would just suck all the gas out or pull the tank off and rinse it out.

You can buy gas STABILIZER, but I would not risk the possible clogging from the old gas.

best that you drain it and put in fresh gas. Over time gasoline will shellac and gum up your needle valve in the float mech. of the carburator and cause a real headache to repair.
