For the most part the differences between the two parties are minimal. On the 2nd, you are NOT correct. Liberals are usually democrats whose position is far to the left. Conservatives are usually Republicans on the far right.

Yep, The Democrats are liberal and the Republicans are conservative, broadly speaking.
In practice both parties are composed of a large number of constituencies that would likely have formed into smaller political parties in other countries (the US government is set up in such a way that it encourages the creation of large political parties, not small ones.)
In general the Republican party is composed of:
Religious conservatives (evangelical Christians and Mormons especially tend to vote Republican.) This is probably the biggest single block of Republican voters, these are the people who want to preserve 'traditional family values' and oppose abortion and giving rights to gays and lesbians.
Business groups: These are folks who want to reduce taxes and government regulation. Includes a lot of rich people. While this is my own $0.02 this is probably the head that wags the dog--when Republicans controlled the govt over the past decade this was the group that actually got what it wanted most often.
Small government libertarians: People who basically want a small government. There in somewhat of a bind, as the Republican government caused the government to grow at a very rapid clip when they were in power.
Folks who are afraid of the outside world: Sorry, there's no really polite way to say this one, but these are the folks who think that we'll all be overrun by Al Quaeda if the US gets out of Iraq and that invading Iran is a good idea.
A lot of Republicans will fit into more than one block. Republicans tend to live in rural areas.
Democrats:
People who are not conservative Christians: If you think people ought to have the right to an abortion, church and state should be separate, that the world was not created 6000 years ago, you're probably a Dem.
Minorities: If you aren't white you're extremely likely to vote Dem, especially if you're African American. Let's just say that the Republican party's record of helping people who are not rich or white over the past few decades has not been good.
Environmentalists: If you like the environment and want to protect it, you're probably a Dem. Republicans have been trying to convince the world that global warming is a myth for years.
Labor: People who are in unions tend to vote Dem.
Progressives: If you ain't happy with the way things are going now you're probably a Dem.
Dems tend to be cosmopolitain and are disproportionately found in and around major cities.

Democrats want bigger government, more taxes that go towards welfare and such. Champion affirmative action. Are supposed to be for more social freedoms, but it doesn't seem that way when they want to take away are freedom of speech with the likes of political correctness. They also think they know what's best for you and will force you to comply such as: making you wear a seat belt. I do wear one, not because it's law, but I know what's best for me, not them. Also telling you where you can and cannot smoke i.e. restaurants and bars, even though they are privately owned. The list goes on.
Republicans want smaller government and less taxes which sparks the economy to grow. People spend more money when they have lower taxes. Which in turn creates more capital gains and more jobs. Want less welfare doled out, since most just use the system and are capable of work. Are against affirmative action. Want more restrictions on things deemed morally wrong in society, such as: porn or swearing on T.V. to protect children. Most republicans are usually very religious as well.
Republicans are usually considered conservative and democrats are usually liberal, but it's not restricted and be the other way around.

The policy differences can be summed up as this:
Republicans support the Wealthy and Multi-National corporations.
Democrats support the average American working class. Unfortunately there isn't as much money in that and so Democrats are the weaker party.
Unfortunately the Republicans dominate the media and spin every story their way.

Generally, those terms are accurate, but in our modern society, you even have far-left Republicans, etc. Democrats generally lean far to Liberal, but there are cases where they leaned more conservative. All isn't black & white any longer, it's gray here, dark grey there, etc. What really is important is that you believe in your Country, and don't downgrade it, now more of that sort of sentiment is usually " Liberal ". Good Luck and God Bless America !!

the unique concept of our shape and our bill of rights substitute into based upon the concept of the supremacy of the guy. If the 1st attention of government is for the guy..... ALL persons..... then no person gets exceeded over of any benefit or detriment the government enacts. on the different hand liberalism is predicated upon issues being utilized to teams..... to a definite portion of our inhabitants, yet to not others..... based upon some nebulous could benefit or to punish. interior the 1st case no person gets excluded. interior the 2nd case exclusion, not equality, is the objective. in simple terms have a severe examine out what the liberals here on YA say, and what they help. that's not equality. They help the two reward or consequences being utilized or provided to particular segments of our inhabitants, yet to not all. it truly is preferential therapy for some, yet not for all. If our suitable government is one that treats all and sundry the two then it could't be a liberal one for that should be one wherein liberals might and do oppose.

eh...kind of correct. Put it like this: democrats tend to be more socially liberal, and republicans tend to be more socially conservative.
The best way I've ever heard it put was, "Democrats want to keep the government out of the bedroom, and republicans want to keep the government out of the boardroom." In other words, democrats tend to pass laws restricting what corporations can do (ie, worker's rights legislation) while republicans tend to pass laws restricting what people can do (ie, anti-sodomy laws)

Yes you're correct. And the differences are mainly how to deal with the war in Iraq, gay marriage, abortion, I don't know...different views on all sorts of already very touchy things.
