Pinks, greens, blues. Not dark, medium to light tones.

Pink has a calming effect--particularly to the high-strung and easily angered. But different shades appeal to different sexes, says Wagner. "Men prefer yellow-based pinks like apricot and peach, while women go for blue-based pinks like bubble gum."

Green evokes peacefulness and serenity and helps lower the heart rate. "Green is comforting to most people and a good color for stress reduction," says color expert Carlton Wagner, director of the Wagner Institute for Color Research in Santa Barbana, Califomia.

Blue is another good choice for the bedroom, since it causes the brain to secrete tranquilizing hormones. "Blue encourages fantasizing and daydreaming," says Wagner.

Violet and other purple shades calm nerves and slow muscular response.

I would say blue is a calm colour, but make it a WARM blue, so it does not make the room look to cold, if its a girl, a nice lilac. NO to Yellows and Oranges. Be minimalist in the decorations, I have a hyperactice grand son, and he has his own room at our house for weekends to give Mum & Dad a break, and I did his room like blue with fish swimming on the walls, a few star fish and stuff, he loves it.
Good luck.

I purely painted a lecture room in easy crimson. the colour is a sparkling pastel and seems very sparkling. CNN had a "element" on the colour crimson--analyze had shown it to be a chilled colour and a few prisons have been applying it. i individually think of any pastel colour is calming--you will possibly desire to do easy blue or paint the ceiling a easy blue and paint fluffy white clouds on it. i'm no professional yet i think of that would desire to be calming.

Greens and blues are calming colors. The color green has actually been proven to stimulate certain centers of the brain, creating a calming effect (it also triggers the memory centers of the brain). Make sure the colors are light, not too dark. Good luck!

I used to work in a maximum security prison and the segregation units were painted pink to calm the prisoners down. General units were green which is also meant to be calming.

I'd definitely go with blue or green. You might want to consider painting the ceiling one of these colours too as it will be the first/last thing they see every day.

A soft, pale, sort of khaki green. Sounds disgusting but Dulux used to do one called "Serengeti Plains" which is just the right colour.

Blue or navy would be the best choice. =) They're very calming colors.
Yellow would be the worst choice.
And red makes you hungry, hehe!
(That's why McDonald's colors are red and yellow... red makes you want to come in, yellow makes you want to get the heck out of there once you're done!)

I would suggest the paint that is supposed to allow you to wipe off crayon/marker marks, (depending on your childs age) and as far as colors, maybe let your child pick them? Ill suggest light colors, but not bright colors, green is supposed to be a good color, but can look somewhat institutional.

I think lavender is a very calming color. I think it of as pink and blue mixed together so it would be fine for a boy or a girl.
