You can't. The granuals you sprinkle down don't work unless you're willing to dig out the top two inches of soil to remove all the pee. Mothballs work but they're bad for the environment, leach toxins into the soil (I still put them in my flower pots though!). I used to use carpet tack strips, just under the mulch. Cats would try to dig, hit those, and MEOOUCH! run off. Unfortunately I kept forgetting where they were until I knelt down on top of one. Garlic pepper tea gets rid of pests but my cats actually licked it off the plants so no good there either.

About the only thing that works is one of those motion detector water sprinklers. Well, that and a bullet. I've been told the coffee bean shell mulch works, but since I've never found it in any garden center to try out, I have no idea.

I wager you get lots of abuse - I did while asking a query approximately neighbour appropriate puppy issues. The generall element grew to become into don`t be so petty, love thy neighbour, that form of element! Pepper dirt might desire to deter the cats. in any different case use a showering up liquid bottlle and squirt them with water - it doesn`t injury them in any respect yet purely gets the message via, good success, different peoples puppy administration or loss of that's a reall concern.

Hose it down with a garden hose anytime you see it on your property. No zillion pine cones, no pepper to reapply, no damage to plants or animals, no weird smells. The cat will learn to stay away and besides, the water helps your garden, anyway. Ditto for most bugs in your garden. (Nobody advertises this because chemical companies can't make any money from it.) It's how I keep raccoons out of my garbage as well.

Keep a squirt gun filled and readily available. Better yet, keep it in the refrigerator. Unless you have a cold-water-loving cat visiting, this has worker for me!
