because they think a man and a man together is unmanly. therefore they probably came up with a word to make us sound girly, hence poof. But really i've only seen femmy guys be called poofs. I'm gay but i'm no where near femmy - atleast i don't think i am. Anyways point is we're all different. Some are smart and most aren't, which is why they make weird and sometimes even funny ones (i find it funny when they insult me - thats weird i know) to get to us. Happy days!

The term "poof" is derived from "puff". Some of the derogatory terms applied to gay men stem from the idea that gay men are weak and feminine. Puff comes from "as light as a cream puff" - which means to weigh very little.

Not sure but they are some times referred to as fags as well and apparently that is because the gentry in years gone by all had a man servant called a *** and many of them were sexually abused by their masters... And the name stuck.. sad and horrible really...x
