I believe that the United States holds a relative hegemonic presence, although the European Union desires to be a "friendly rival" of sorts, so long as they can solidify with identity and action. As well, China's modernization means they are more interested in being a world power, although their interests tend to be regional over global.

I believe we will likely see a shift to a tripolar world, between the United States, Europe, and China. While the United States will likely remain the most powerful of the three for quite some time, the balancing force between the other two major powers will likely result in a lack of unipolar action in comparison to former unipolar structures.

As well, while Russia is a shadow of its former self, it remains a militarily powerful nation with a large population. Should they align with either Europe or China, that would produce a stronger rival for the United States. However, in neither condition would it produce a rival so strong as to overshadow the United States as things stand today.

Definately not. We live in a multi-polar world, which is why the United Nations is more vital than ever, and neocon imperialistic fantasies are more irrelevant than ever.
