question 1.
people organize their knowledge by connecting it to things they already know. For example, if you are learning about world religions, you connect the various doctrines of these religions to the religion you were raised with. when you learn math, you connect it to the math you have already mastered. In this way you form "knowledge trees," in which your neurons connect along long pathways. The way knowledge is departmentalized in school (language, math, science, social sciences, art, music) also helps us to put new knowledge in the same "file folder" with our previous knowledge in the same discipline.

Quantum theory has to do with the evidence that energy in nature is released in discrete units. These units are extremely small, but nevertheless, there is a minimum amount of energy that must accumulate in an atom for it to release that energy. It's sort of like your waste container in your kitchen. You don't take the trash out until the trash bag in the container fills up. That's the smallest "discrete" unit of trash that you will bother to take to the large trash can in the garage or outside. The "quantum" amount of energy in the atom has to do with the amount of energy required to raise an electron to ascend to the next highest energy level.
