I was driving, and put the window down, and heard a ka-plunk sound, then when I tried to raise it, nothing happened, though it still cycled up and down. At home, my husband manually raised it and there was a crease streak. Pont. dealership man said "gota look at it first", could be a regulator $400-500. Could there be a cheaper fix? Thanks.

yes, no need to take it to a dealer. The labor is very high. Just take to a reputable auto repair center. Should run about 1/2 or $250.

good luck........

lets be honest. this is an old car. u have nothing to lose by taking off the door panel and taking a look. the dealership can give u a printout of how to do this. generally it involves a couple of screws around the armrest and plastic snap-in pins around the perimeter. the top of the panel usually has a lip that hangs on the window opening. so undo the screws that u can find, pull out the panel one snappy at a time, and lift off. there is probably a plastic sheet like really thick saran wrap. take a look thru this. the window usually rests in u shaped metal bracket. it may have come out for some reason and u just have to put it back in. i dont know whether there are screws that go thru this to hold window in or it is just from friction. put it back in and try it with the panel off. see how it works and wing it from there. good luck

nobody will know what the damage is until the door panel is taken off and everything is examined, the mechanic was probably quoting a price in a worse case senario, if the window has simply come out of the regulator that would be an easy fix and shouldn't cost that much.

you have gotten greater fish to fry till now to long-- you're in all risk going to lose your intake manifold gaskets sometime down the line. there grew to become right into a TSB issued in this situation in till now fashions (and that i've got faith the 2004 as nicely), and hundreds of persons have been having extreme priced maintenance that GM won't conceal even nonetheless they have nicely-known of the venture for it sluggish. It has to do with the Dexcool coolant they put in there (long life coolant) which has someway been attacking the gasket, finest to a leak-- probable an inner leak the place the coolant gets into your oil and creates the flair for an particularly undesirable venture called hydrolock. extra, GM would void your guarantee in case you flush and oil-replace all that stuff out and replace it with the eco-friendly classic antifreeze.watch for dropping coolant stages regardless of in case you do not see any drips and function that engine checked and replace the gaskets with Felpro replacements. advice-- get thee removed from the GM. I threw in some Bars Leak and caught a on the industry connect up mine. low-cost, grimy restoration? Dang skippy. i'm not dropping a plug nickel on the thang. that's GM's infant. Nissan is a lot extra advantageous and that they stand in the back of their autos. GM needs to stand in front of theirs.
