Good question! Being friends with men my whole life... there is alot I've learned! Even the most thoughtful, kindest man is still tempted by simply hormones, and chemistry! You ought to do some research on human pheromones, and compare it to any other animal's pheromone information you can find!
As some of the info states.... in the third link I provided... Men who are exposed to the ovulatory "copulins" of women exhibit an increase in testosterone. The mechanisms involved appear to be some form of "chemical warfare" through which unattractive women may, in the presence of their pheromones, induce a male sexual response similar to that induced by attractive women
So, if the scent of a woman causes a man to release Testosterone, and Testosterone causes Increased libido and erection frequency according to the info on testosterone link below, that would tell you it's an animal instinct. It is difficult to control.
Women also have testosterone in their bodies... so says the link on Testosterone... In both males and females, it plays key roles in health and well-being. Examples include enhanced libido, energy, immune function, and protection against osteoporosis. On average, the adult male body produces about twenty to thirty times the amount of testosterone that an adult female's body does.
20 to 30 times more testosterone in the male? No wonder they are so aroused all the time! That must be hard to control! How would you feel if you were 20 to 30 times more aroused than you are normally?
Good luck! In my personal findings from having male friends, it can be a struggle! It actually is alot easier for men with lower libidos(lower Testosterone levels)! I just thought you might like the science of it all! It took a long time for me to understand it all, myself, but the truth is the truth!

I think you've already figured out that for many guys, thinking and sex are mutually exclusive.
The question remains, "why?"
Last decade, there was a popular theory about male sexuality that explained infidelity and adventurous sexual behavior from an anthropological perspective. Simply put, such behavior in prehistoric times increased chances of survival and Darwinian selection.
The result, through the lens of modern civilization and particularly the religions that have come about within the last few thousand years, is some confusion about what is "normal" behavior.
Erratic sexual behavior isn't necessary anymore, but it could possibly be our genetic heritage, and may remain so as long as the least adventurous abstain.
Let the theologians, biologists, and psychologists wrestle with this one. Don't waste your time.
Just be careful out there. For my part, I attempt to embrace the ideals of my culture and discern whom I should, or should not, interact with on that level. I feel sorry for those who do not have that skill.
Maybe you can take up the cause of educating people about nature vs. nurture and embark on a quest to change the nature of the beast.
I wouldn't waste my time on that either, but there is always jail and public censure.

It was much more difficult when I was a teenager, I was pretty much in lust with almost every woman I saw all day long. Now I am 40 and the fire is not so strong, but just as frequent and focused mainly on my wife. All sorts of lovely ideas of pleasing and being pleased come into my head, augmented by many excellent memories -- The true advantage of age and experience.

you need to ask women why they dress provokingly and leave little to the imagination. Porn industry loaded with girls who are uneducated and abused from early years, and last but not least morals are almost non existent in today's society. If it was not available and so easy guys would not be taking advantage of the situation.

It's the way guys are made. Don't blame them...it's not their fault. Some can control it better than others. Maybe some have stronger hormones than others though too. Yes we are thinking and if you ask me some girls are worse than guys!
