Has it attacked your dog? They usually don't. If you let the dog bark, that should keep them away. Also, make your garbage less tempting. Compost your veggie scraps in sealed bins and keep the rest in a freezer til garbage day. Or keep the cans behind a closed door.

As a girl scout leader, I've had my fair share of run ins with raccoons at camp. The way to get rid of them is not to "invite" them in the first place. Get locking lids on your trashcans (or just put heavy rocks on top of them). Don't leave any garbage out uncovered. And place them up against a wall so they are harder to tip over. You can try scaring them away, but they will always return if there's a food supply.

My brother had this problem and eventually, he had to exterminate it after dark with his bow (silent...)

For a more humane removal, you can buy traps at Cabela's or Dunham's, then let him go at a park somewhere.
