All anyone ever mentions is "a governement that can defend itself" or "when we get the job done." However, these standards cannot be measured; no one can ever really tell if we meet them.

At one point we were after measurable objectives: be sure there weren't any WMD, capture Saddam, hold elections. But all these objectives have been met.

So, what measurable objectives are we now pursuing?

More stability in the four tough provinces. An Iraqi Army and Iraqi police forces in Baghdad and the Sunni Triangle with any US military only there in the role of advisers. Thats a start.

One measurable objective appears to be squandering so much money on the Iraq occupation that America can no longer fund Health Care, Education, Medicare and Social Security. At least that seems to be the only reason to continue the failed adventure in Iraq.

US objectives include the ongoing occupation of the Middle East. My one measure of success is US escape from the Middle East.

Only wealthy investors in select corporations are successful in meeting their objectives.

In my opinion, success in Iraq means no more Americans over there.
